XORUS

“Xorus”(Chorus) is an A/B application for both bands and venues to streamline their booking process. The idea was born from the need for small bands to get their foot in the door, and for venues to discover new talent. Everything is built around four principles, booking local gigs, building tours, in-depth user profiles, and creating a talented community.

Goals

Research & Testing

A comparative/competitive audit to see what already existed in the space. This was followed with scenarios to establish empathy with potential users. Information architecture and storyboards were created and “speed dating” of potential features was carried out to gain users first impressions of the app.

After synthesizing results of the “speed dating” exercise, mid-level interactive prototypes were created and usability testing was implemented. These participants included professional musicians as well as tour mangers. Almost all feedback was positive, and the insights gained were extremely valuable. With insights at the ready, it was time to dive into branding and creating high-fidelity interactive prototypes.

High Fidelity Designs & Interactive Prototypes

Creating branding for “Xorus” that was inclusive to all musicians and venues no matter their background was a huge undertaking. The user flow needed to be familiar and intuitive, while being exciting and aesthetically pleasing. It needed to be easily learned and give users feedback on their actions as well as indication of next steps.

Looking Ahead

Following completion of the “local gig” feature, high-fidelity designs and prototypes would need to be created for the band “tour builder” and “Preferences” features. The venue app would also have to be created and go through this same process. Research and refinement of users needs would also be continued on both sides of “Xorus”.
